Craniovertebral Junction Disorders

Craniovertebral junction abnormalities are congenital or acquired abnormalities of the occipital bone, foramen magnum, or first two cervical vertebrae that decrease the space for the lower brain stem and cervical cord.

Brain Trauma

Traumatic brain injury often occurs as a result of a severe sports injury or car accident. Immediate or delayed symptoms may include confusion, blurry vision and difficulty concentrating. Infants may cry persistently or be irritable. Treatment may involve rest, medication and surgery.

Brain Tumour Surgery

A craniotomy is the most common type of operation for a brain tumour. You usually have a craniotomy under a general anaesthetic. This means that you will be asleep and won't feel anything. During a craniotomy, the neurosurgeon cuts out an area of bone from your skull.

Spine Surgery

Spinal surgery is performed to correct spinal pathologies that cause pain. Back surgery is used to relieve the pain and/or numbness associated with this pain, which often radiates to other areas of the back, arms and legs.

Epilepsy Surgery

Epilepsy surgery involves a neurosurgical procedure where an area of the brain involved in seizures is either resected, ablated, disconnected or stimulated. The goal is to eliminate seizures or significantly reduce seizure burden.

Complex Brain Surgery

The bone flap is usually replaced after surgery, using small metal plates, sutures, or wires. This brain surgery is called a craniotomy. The bone flap may not be put back if your surgery involved a tumor or an infection or if the brain was swollen.
